Benefits of a Nationwide Property Management Association

Vacancies are filling faster than ever. Rents are slowly rising in many areas of the country. Property managers are busier because many former home owners are choosing to be renters.

So why would property managers consider joining an association of their peers? Is it really worth the effort, money and time?

According to The National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM®), an association of real estate professionals who know first-hand the unique problems and challenges of managing single-family and small residential properties, the answer is a resounding “yes!”

NARPM members are found throughout the U.S., divided into several regions to better service NARPM® members and the chapters. Founded in October 1988, NARPM provides a permanent trade organization for the residential property management industry.

As the premier professional association of residential property managers, it currently represents over 4,000 members comprised of real estate agents, brokers, managers and their employees.

NARPM fills an important void in the property management business. As a group, managers of small residential properties oversee billions of dollars worth of assets working hard to please their clients.

Yet property managers had almost no voice in such important matters as tax law, legislation, legal document requirements, accounting practices, insurance, building codes, zoning and utilities.

NARPM offer that “voice”. Also, it offers educational programs plus the chance to earn professional designations. In today’s competitive environment it always helps to have more credibility.

As NARPM explains it, “The power that comes with increased knowledge and confidence is tangible. It is what sets you apart from your competition.

“Professional designations from NARPM® have an impact on your company and your clients—and the results translate directly to the bottom line. Add the credibility of our professional designations to your name and to your company name!”

For property managers who specialize in residential rental properties, the Residential Management Professional (RMP®) and Master Property Manager (MPM®) designations encourage your owner-clients.

You can tell your current clients and prospect for new ones by sharing what you’ve learned from taking the courses that earned you these designations. Continuing education is another talking point that lets your clients know you’re keeping up with the latest management skills.

One of the newest certifications available from NARPM® is the Certified Maintenance Coordinator (CMC). A carefully trained, well-educated CMC can return untold profits to your bottom line.

Virtually all the requirements of the CMC certification can be earned at the local level.

In the final analysis, being a member of a nationwide management association is only as important as the following points that NARPM states on their website:

  • NARPM® promotes a high standard of business ethics, professionalism and fair housing practice. The Association also certifies its members in the standards and practices of the residential property management industry and promotes continuing professional education.
  • NARPM® is an association of real estate professionals who know first-hand the unique problems and challenges of managing single-family and small residential properties.
  • NARPM® members know that education and communication raise the level of our profession, so that we may better represent our clients.
  • NARPM® is here to represent the interest of property managers.
